Abdul Qader Rasul, owner and founder of Ariana Handicrafts, has been supplying the highest quality handmade oriental and modern rugs to its clients for over 45 years. This esteemed handmade rug shop has built up its reputation in manufacturing and supplying high quality handmade rugs and crafts over the past four decades.
Originally from Istalif, Abdul Rasul started as a carpet weaver at a very young age. He started his own business in the famous Chicken Street of Kabul Afghanistan back in 1980. And by early 1990s, they had moved premises to Peshawar and started working broadly with Afghan refugees in various refugee camps both to keep the Afghan carpet industry alive as well as providing means of income to the weavers. As the situation in Afghanistan changed back in 2002, Ariana Handicrafts moved back to Afghanistan and since then they have continued to provide high quality rug production to their clients.
Ariana Handicrafts has approximately 30 employees who directly work at the shop. The brand also employs another 300 full time employees who weave carpets from their home and send them to the factory when the work is completed.
Currently, they manufacture and supply carpets and handicrafts to various countries in the region. They supply various types of nomadic, villager, vegetable dyes. They also produce fine wool carpets in designs such as Ziegler, Qandahar, Suzanis, Red Afghan, Fine Mouris, Kunduz, Akhal Gul, Qarchi Gak, Main Naqsha, Fish Design, Bokhara design, Gandom Design, Yousuf Baie, Kilims/Flat weave and many other types of tribal and traditional rugs. Ariana Handicrafts also has begun to produce some pottery products as well.
What makes the products of Ariana Handicrafts stand out is their unbeatable quality. This quality comes from choosing superior wool as well as intricately small weaving techniques. The best high quality wool comes from Ghazni, Afghanistan. The other high quality wool comes from Belgium which gets processed in Afghanistan. From local Ghazni wool and some imported kinds, thousands of carpets are produced that have some of the most well-known designs such as Qazaq and Chobrang. Many high quality carpets with these designs have been produced from Ariana Handcrafts and they have been exported to foreign countries for over 20 years.
Abdul Qader Raul is hopeful that by partnering with ASEEL, his carpets, rugs and other handicraft products sales will increase. He hopes that as his business succeeds, not only will he create more jobs in his community and increase his business’s profits, but also contribute to Afghanistan’s economy and preserve its long standing carpet traditions.
