Marziah Hafizi, Founder of Lora Bright Designs, earned a degree in journalism before kicking off the one-of-a-kind clothing brand in 2018. Her main goal when launching the business was to establish sustainable markets for Afghan products due to the growing supply and demand rates controlled by external countries including Turkey, India, Pakistan, and Iran. The purpose? Urging Afghan-owned businesses to take control of their own market shares would increase the wealth that remains in-country benefiting the economy and citizens. by hard work and determination, Hafizi reflects on these achievements.
Hafizi believes it is imperative for Afghan businesses to have the type of support Aseel offers to boost the sell of products domestically and abroad. Otherwise, the consequences could mean the loss of economic opportunity and sacrificing much of Afghanistan’s treasured cultural heritage. With everything at stake, the first step for Hafizi was ensuring that the business would survive. Over the past two years, Hafizi has admirably pushed to increase brand visibility representing the business in exhibitions throughout a number of Afghanistan provinces, including Kabul, as well as internationally with foreign exhibits taking place in India, Turkey, and Kazakhstan.
As she enjoys the rewards of hard-earned success, Hafizi wishes to share these opportunities with others. She now employs 35 Afghans, the majority women. The shop prides itself on hiring employees from the local community, too. Employees are offered the flexibility to work from the shop or to produce clothing and other items from home. As the business continues gaining momentum, Hafizi is expanding from women’s fashion to adding menswear and jewelry to the fashion line. focused first on women’s fashion, and after gaining considerable traction also launched a menswear line. While Lora Bright has been in the spotlight before, they have not gained traction in international markets; Hafizi hopes partnering with Aseel will change that.
Now that Lora Bright Designs is part of the Aseel network of vendors, Hafizi hopes to increase sales in Afghanistan and globally; Aseel is excited to partner with the business to achieve this type of success. Hafizi imagines a future where Afghans support themselves by building upon celebrated traditions while innovating to capture new audiences. With beautiful handmade clothing and the support of Aseel, she prepares to take the business to the next level. Despite challenges along the way, Hafizi refuses to let her dreams wither knowing that her “Bright” can spark the same hope in others.
