Banowan Shams ShopBanowan Shams
Selling from AfghanishtanShakira Shams, the owner, and founder of Banowan Shams is a graduate student of Kabul University majoring in Dari language and literature. Meanwhile, he has been a national television reporter for 18 years. Shakira learned sewing skills at age 20 and was trained in handicrafts and sewing for about six months in Iran. Later she started her own shop where she employed six people under her. Shakira envisions her company growing into foreign markets so consumers worldwide can experience and appreciate her handcrafted line. She plans to hire more unemployed Afghan women to support their financial stability. The company creates handmade attire for children and traditional Afghan women's wear appropriate for parties, engagements, weddings, and evening events. She also works with her students in the shop to prepare hand- and leather-embroidered Afghan clothing. Shakira and her employees either prepare all the raw materials at home or buy them from nearby markets to make the clothing. The brand currently has almost 200 different types of clothing available in its online store on the Aseel platform. Shakira believes that local Afghan clothes have many customers worldwide because before, tourists could visit Afghanistan and explore the antique tradition and culture of Afghanistan. These tourists valued the country's handmade goods and were willing to pay fair prices for them. Additionally, Afghans living abroad also enjoy adhering to their nation's traditions, which is why our industries have expanded and turned global.
