In 2012, Mahdi Ansar established Afghan Emerald Jewelry, an Aseel vendor. Ansar creates pieces with selective precious gemstones native to Afghanistan, including emeralds, tourmaline, aquamarine, topaz, and lapis lazuli. Afghan Emerald Jewelry prides itself on creating jewelry that surpasses national and international quality standards. The shop offers over 500 designs; Ansar’s work has been praised by industry professionals throughout Afghanistan and abroad. Ansar’s business operates in two divisions: training and production. Recruits will first be rigorously taught to produce high-quality pieces. Afghan Emerald Jewelry hires and trains both men and women as jewelers. Ansar promotes young professionals with excellent work ethics because Ansar was young when he started his business. To date, Ansar’s staff consists of seven artists working alongside Ansar to create beautiful handmade pieces. The production process begins with design, sourcing and assembling raw materials, examining each gemstone for clarity and quality, and finally cutting the gems into proper sizes for the chosen design. A jeweler’s torch is used for precisely soldering and welding each piece together. Every piece of jewelry undergoes a meticulous polishing process multiple times to finish the wearable work of art. Through partnering with Aseel, Mahdi Ansar and his team reach a broader international audience. This means he and his team of talented jewelers have more opportunities to showcase their thoughtfully executed designs.
