Ramadan Giving: Nourishing Hope for the Orphans of Kabul

Shabnam sits on the cold, earthen floor of her dimly lit shack, cradling her youngest child in her frail arms. The biting wind seeps through the cracks in the walls, howling like a cruel reminder of her helplessness. Her children, wrapped in torn blankets, huddle together in a futile attempt to stay warm. Their hollow eyes tell a story of hunger, a hunger so persistent that even their tears seem to have dried up.

Shabnam used to dream of a better life. Once, she had a small home with her husband, who worked as a daily laborer. But tragedy struck when he fell ill, and without access to medical care, he passed away, leaving Shabnam alone to fend for their five children. With no skills, no education, and no support, Shabnam's world collapsed.

Every morning, she walks miles to scavenge firewood, hoping to find enough to sell for a few coins or to light a fire for her children. But the forest grows sparse, and the bitter cold leaves her hands numb. She skips meals for days so her children can have something—anything—to eat. Sometimes, it’s just water mixed with a pinch of flour, barely enough to sustain them.

The nights are the worst. As darkness falls, the cold grips her home like a merciless predator. She wraps her children in her own tattered sari, whispering prayers to the heavens, begging for a miracle. She fears the day her youngest, only a year old, might succumb to the relentless chill.

Despite her struggles, Shabnam never gives up. She looks at her children and sees the faint glimmer of hope. She dreams of a day when they will go to school, when their laughter will fill a warm, safe home, and when they’ll never have to sleep with empty stomachs. But those dreams feel like a distant mirage.

Shabnam’s story isn’t just one of poverty—it’s a cry for help. A plea for humanity to notice her plight and extend a hand of kindness. She doesn’t ask for much, just enough to keep her children warm, fed, and alive.

Zinat Mohammadi, an 8-year-old girl who lost her father at the age of four, is facing severe hardships. She lives in a six-member family with no stable support, struggling with extreme poverty. Her mother, who is the sole caretaker, is unable to find work, leaving them without basic necessities. On top of this, Zinat’s sister and mother are suffering from illness, making their situation even more dire.

Their home lacks proper amenities, and with the harsh winter setting in, they are left vulnerable to the cold. Without financial support, they struggle to afford food, warmth, and medical care.

Mir Ahmad, Rahmatullah, and Halima—three blind children—have never seen the world others take for granted. But what pains them more than their blindness is the hunger and lack of medicine they endure every day.

Their father, Noor, leaves home each day with hope in his heart, only to return empty-handed. Their mother, with tearful eyes, holds her children close, unable to provide them with the medicine they need. The neighbors, though struggling themselves, sometimes bring a piece of bread and a heart full of sympathy.
Despite their hardships, this family has not lost hope. Perhaps one day, a helping hand from near or far will light a candle in their darkness. Perhaps human kindness will change the fate of these three little angels. Will anyone hear their silent cries for help?

Three Angels in Darkness – A Story of Hope Amidst Suffering

Farmanullah is one of many children in Afghanistan forced to take on responsibilities far beyond their years due to extreme poverty. This young boy, who lost his father in a suicide attack a few years ago, has since become the sole provider for his family. Living 30 kilometers outside the city, Farmanullah walks this distance every day just to reach the city and sell boiled eggs to passersby. The small profit he makes barely covers enough food for his family.
Why This Campaign Matters:
Despite his young age and difficult circumstances, Farmanullah bears the burden of feeding his family. He cannot enjoy his childhood and has lost the opportunity for education due to the economic hardships his family faces. This campaign is designed to provide immediate relief, offering food for Farmanullah and his family for a few days, and to ease some of the crushing pressure on his young shoulders.

Gulajan is a disabled man who is the sole breadwinner for his family of eight. His children are young, and he has no one else to support him. Due to diabetes, Gulajan lost his leg and is now further burdened by ongoing health complications. In addition to struggling to afford basic necessities, he also faces significant medical expenses. His current job as a shoe shiner barely covers their daily needs.

After speaking with him and learning about his situation, we launched this campaign to gather support for Gulajan. Through this campaign, we aim to provide him with food supplies and financial assistance to cover his medical treatments. Let's come together and support Gulajan in this difficult time. Sobhan is a 67-year-old man who works hard every day. He has a cart that he uses to carry people’s things for a little money. Sobhan is the head of a big family with seven members, and he loves them very much. 
However, life is tough for Sobhan. He struggles to make enough money to feed everyone. Some days, there is not enough food on the table, and it worries him deeply. 
Sobhan needs our help. With your support, we can provide food and a better life for him and his family. Let’s come together to help Sobhan find hope and strength in these hard times.

Widow families in Afghanistan are those led by women who have lost their husbands, often due to conflict, violence, or health issues. These families typically face significant challenges, including economic hardship, social stigma, and limited access to education and healthcare. Cultural norms often place additional burdens on widows, leading to marginalization and isolation. As a result, many widow families struggle to provide for their basic needs and seek support, highlighting the urgent need for targeted interventions and assistance to improve their living conditions and empower these women

Ehsanullah is a 15-year-old boy who lives in a family of 10. Along with his two brothers, he collects used bottles from the city and sells them to earn a small income that barely provides food for his family. Due to financial hardships, Ehsanullah had to stop his education, and the tough conditions have left him in a difficult situation. When he sees other kids his age going to school, he feels sad and disheartened, wishing he could be like them.
Despite the challenges, Ehsanullah remains hopeful that one day things will improve for him and his family. Right now, his biggest request is to secure enough food for his family to survive these difficult times.
