While some small VSDs may close on their own, Ahmad’s case is more severe and requires urgent surgery to prevent life-threatening complications. Afghanistan’s healthcare system, fragile and under-resourced, does not have the capability to perform this critical procedure. Ahmad must be taken abroad for surgery, but his family, struggling with poverty, cannot afford the $6,000 USD required for the procedure and related expenses, including travel and medical care.
