Zalmaï Levrat Sherzad
My name is Zalmaï. I grew up in New York City. My mother is Afghan, and my father is Swiss. I had the chance to go to Kabul for the first time when I was eight years old and stayed for two years as my parents were working there. I am now 24 and haven’t been back in more than ten years. It is my dream to go back to Afghanistan and reconnect with my heritage. I watch from far the struggles of this misunderstood place which the television and news show only the tragic side. I miss the beautiful smiles and generous hearts of the Afghan people. This is my feeling from a distance, and many around the world are connected with the beautiful country of Afghanistan and see the difficulties happening there. This campaign is a way of uniting and sharing with the Afghan people in need during this Ramadan.
