About Campaign

Indira Gandhi Children's Hospital is located in Kabul, Afghanistan. In 2004, the hospital started the first cerebral palsy center in Afghanistan. Since the change in regime on the 15th August 2022, hospital staff have been battling the fallout of a rapidly spreading economic crisis, threatening millions with hunger. Children are adversely affected by poverty and this economic collapse, with the lives of over 12.9 million children across Afghanistan have become endangered. Food scarcity and insufficient access to health services have caused acute malnutrition in 3.2 million children. Currently, 1.1 million children are on the cusp of severe acute malnutrition, life-threatening without treatment. Funds collected by this campaign will provide children in this hospital with Aseel's Emergency Packages for Child Relief. Each Emergency Package for Child Relief includes Rice, Dal, Beans, Sugar, Flour, Oil, Formula Milk, Baby Diapers, and Baby Cerelac Cereal. Prominent nutrition interventions in emergency settings include general food distribution (GFD) rations and Ready-To-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF), an “energy-dense, and micronutrient-rich paste used in therapeutic feeding.” Due to a lack of RUFTs, lipid-based supplements, and fortified options, this food package is consistent with items that approximate the nutrition and energy requirements of a well-balanced diet for the recipient population. This campaign is part of Aseel's Child Relief Grand Challenge. Funds will support the prevention and treatment of Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM) and Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) by providing emergency support packages to children under the age of five in need. This Grand Challenge's target is to provide relief for 15,000 malnourished children by providing food packages and connecting them with local and international malnutrition experts for treatment.
