Omida is a young woman from Mazar who has one clear goal: to continue her education and build the future her mother always dreamed of for her. Even when the family struggled financially, she continued to support Omida's education and encourage her to keep studying. Then, she was gone. After losing her mother, Omida had to put her own education aside. Her family still needed to survive, and her father could not cover all of their expenses alone. She began working to help support her family and her siblings. She had a dream, but she also had responsibilities. Even while working, Omida never stopped wanting to study. She knows that learning English and passing the TOEFL test could be an important first step toward applying for scholarships and continuing her education. There is another reason she refuses to give up. Her mother saw Omida as her hope for the future. Omida was originally named Khal Bibi, but after losing her mother, she chose the name Omida, meaning hope, a name that carries the meaning of what her mother always saw in her. Today, Omida is trying to become that hope.
