Thousands of Afghan women have recently returned to Herat after being deported or forced to leave Iran. Many arrived with little more than the clothes they were carrying, no stable income, limited social support, and responsibility for supporting their children and other family members. RWDOA’s assessment of 1,021 female returnees found that 99.7% had returned from Iran, 93.3% had been deported, and 97.7% were unemployed. Nearly all requested financial assistance, while 69.1% identified employment opportunities as an urgent need. Many women already possess skills in tailoring, handicrafts, food production, embroidery, agriculture, and other home-based activities, but they lack the equipment, start-up capital, business knowledge, mentorship, and market connections needed to earn a sustainable income. This campaign will help 1000 vulnerable Afghan returnee women in Herat establish or strengthen safe, dignified, and sustainable businesses. With your support, RWDOA will provide participants with: <ul><li>Market-oriented vocational and entrepreneurship training</li><li>Business grants, tools, equipment, and start-up materials</li><li>Business planning, bookkeeping, financial literacy, and digital marketing skills</li><li>Mentorship, peer-support groups, and women’s business networks</li><li>Support to access customers through safe markets, exhibitions, cooperatives, and online platforms</li><li>Psychosocial support and referrals for women experiencing trauma and reintegration challenges</li><li>Follow-up coaching and monitoring to improve business sustainability</li></ul> RWDOA’s separate assessment of 1,000 women entrepreneurs in Herat found that more than 90% needed grant-based financial assistance. Women also reported serious gaps in business management, marketing, financial planning, digital literacy, mobility, and market access. These findings demonstrate that women do not lack determination or ideas, they lack access to the resources and opportunities required to succeed. Your contribution will help a woman purchase a sewing machine, obtain food-processing equipment, secure raw materials, package and market her products, or develop another viable home-based enterprise. The impact will extend beyond one individual: when a woman earns an income, she can provide food, healthcare, education, and greater stability for her entire family.
