What is Our Grand Challenge?
The Afghan government's downward spiral in mid-August 2021 resulted in a constant humanitarian crisis, a banking crisis, and international sanctions. Following that, natural disasters such as earthquakes and floods destroyed thousands of acres of agricultural land and homes across the country. Consequently, making daily life for the populace more difficult and challenging. Meanwhile, as the winter season approaches, floods and road blockages cause considerable increases in the prices of food and heating supplies. This has resulted in poor economic conditions for the entire state, particularly those in the lower financial classes.
Aseel's Emergency Response began operations in August 2021, delivering life-saving aid packages to war-torn and vulnerable families throughout Afghanistan. To date, half a million people have been helped through relief packages and people-led campaigns. Committed to our mission, we aim to lend a supporting hand to needy families this winter through our Winter Relief Grand Challenge.
The Winter Relief Grand Challenge joins global voices in calling for help for millions of Afghan families in need. Everyone is welcome to participate in our grand challenge by raising funds through campaigns and donations. Together with Aseel, let's be the first to contribute to the effort to stop the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.

Methods
Step 1:
Identification
The Aseel team identifies families who need assistance in Kabul and other provinces where winter is harsh through its staff and active Atalan (Volunteers). Families will be provided with assistance who have no work or source of income.
Step 2:
Coordination and Supply
The ASEEL team coordinates with the volunteers, locals and local businesses by supplying food packages and shelters. The mobilisation of these local efforts makes it easier to supply aid time effectively.
Transparency and Accountability
All participants in the ASEEL grand challenge"Winter Relief Grand Challenge", including contributors such as donors, campaign owners, partner organizations, and volunteers, are provided with bi-weekly updates, including financial data and how many food packages have been distributed. Also, financial records from every report will be made public in real time.
For universal transparency throughout the platform and to track every dollar, the Emergency Response team developed version ASEEL ER V1.0, providing Omid (Hope) IDs using the Omid card to track each beneficiary. The Omid IDs are pre-registered as soon as a beneficiary is identified.
The second version, ASEEL ER V2.0, currently being developed by the ASEEL team, has two additional modules: one for certified vendors (Vendor Module) designed for local supermarkets to distribute ASEEL food packages in the community. The other (Lifesavers Module) will enable pre-approved volunteers, including Afghan youth, to use the platform to register beneficiaries, which will provide life-saving relief at the local and district levels.
