What is Lana?
Lana is a prefabricated, affordable, and earthquake-resistant housing solution designed to provide safe and permanent homes for disaster-impacted families and returning refugees in Afghanistan. Meaning "bird's nest" in Persian/Dari, Lana can be built in less than 30 days and installed on-site in just 2 days. Equipped with solar power for lighting and heating, Lana offers a self-sufficient, reliable and sustainable living solution.

Why Lana Matters
The October 2023 earthquakes in Herat, returned refugees from Pakistan, and the 2024 flash floods, displaced nearly a million people, creating an urgent need for over 150,000 homes by the end of 2030. This crisis compounds Afghanistan's ongoing humanitarian challenges, and these challenges only get worse by the passing of time.
Traditional housing solutions built by the families themselves have proven inadequate, leaving many families vulnerable to future disasters. Lana addresses this gap by offering properly-built, durable homes that ensure safety and stability.

Lana is developed by Tahdab, led by architect Ferdous Samim, who has over a decade of experience in the field. Through Taak Design, founded in 2012 in Kabul, Ferdous has gained a deep understanding of Afghanistan's architectural challenges and needs.
Our team is uniquely positioned to deliver a solution that is both innovative and grounded in local realities. We believe that Lana has the potential to make a significant impact, providing homes that meet the community's needs and withstand natural disasters.
Technical Specifications
- Structure: Steel screw pile foundation and steel frame for robust structural support.
- Features: 100% solar-powered, insulated walls and roof, parquet floor finishing, PVC windows, MDF interior doors, and fully furnished kitchen and WC.
- Design Expertise: Crafted by a team led by Ferdous Samim, leveraging extensive experience in Afghan architecture and engineering.
The Importance of this Campaign
Building the Minimum Viable Product (MVP), our first Lana is a critical step in this part of our program. We have done the research, the math, and design and now it’s time to build and test its effectiveness.
The success of the MVP will pave the way for mass production, enabling us to meet the urgent housing needs of Afghanistan. This campaign is crucial to our mission, as we cannot begin large-scale production without proving the concept first.
