Andkhoy Carpet Weaving Workshop

Afghanistan

My name is Gulalai Sabit, daughter of Panji, originally from Shirin Tagab District, Faryab Province, and currently residing in District 8, Kunduz City, Afghanistan. I hold a 14th-grade diploma in Mathematics from the Teacher Training Institute of Faryab and have over 22 years of experience in traditional carpet weaving. I officially began my business in 1401 (2022) during a difficult economic time, starting with a loan of 40,000 AFN from my father. With this small beginning, I established Andkhoy Carpet Weaving Workshop, which now operates from my home and employs a team of 8 women. We specialize in 6-meter traditional Afghan carpets, prayer mats, decorative curtains, carpet sets, and custom vehicle carpets. Every item is handwoven using traditional techniques that reflect the beauty and legacy of Afghan craftsmanship. I first learned carpet weaving in 1398 (2019) in Andkhoy, Faryab, and continued working there until I moved to Kunduz, where I later served as a carpet weaving trainer under a program supported by Japan and the Department of Labor and Social Affairs. My goal has always been to earn a lawful income, support my community, and promote Afghan carpet weaving on a national and international level. Through contracts with local shops and direct community sales, I’ve built a growing customer base. By joining Aseel, I hope to expand our reach, create more job opportunities for Afghan women, and preserve the art of handwoven carpets. Thank you for supporting Andkhoy Carpet Weaving Workshop — where every weave tells a story of skill, heritage, and hope.
