Gowhar Nayab Carpet

-

My name is Aqela Sultani, daughter of Mohammad Ali, and I come from Gawswaran village in Pul-e-Khumri, Baghlan province. I completed my education up to grade 14 and officially started my business in 2020 with a simple but powerful goal: to create job opportunities for myself and others in my community. That’s how Gowhar Nayab Carpet was born. With limited resources but a lot of determination, I began weaving carpets with a few women from my village. Over time, our work grew—and today, I’m proud to lead a team of 40 local artisans. We specialize in producing high-quality, handmade carpets, including: Wood-dyed carpets Merino wool carpets Kazak-style carpets Our carpets are more than just products—they carry the stories, culture, and skills of generations before us. One of the turning points in my journey was joining Aseel. Through their platform, I’ve been able to reach customers far beyond my village—even internationally. Aseel has helped amplify our voice, open new markets, and bring recognition to the hard work of Afghan artisans like us. It has been a bridge between our traditional craft and the modern world. My business is built on three core goals: To create sustainable jobs for women and others in my community To contribute, even in a small way, to Afghanistan’s economic development To support my family and help other families do the same The name Gowhar Nayab means “Rare Jewel”—and that's what I believe our carpets are. Each one is made with care, heritage, and heart. With the support of platforms like Aseel, I’m hopeful that our work will continue to shine and inspire for years to come.
