My name is Marwa, and I am the founder of Marwa Tailor Handicrafts, based in Kandahar. I officially started my business in 2012, but my passion for tailoring and handicrafts began long before that. I learned everything from my mother—how to sew, design, and create beautiful traditional clothing using Afghan techniques passed down through generations. I studied up to 6th grade in school, but most of my skills came from home—what we call morani zedkara—and the rich traditions of Afghan craftsmanship. Before starting the business, I was doing tailoring work from home for my family and neighbors. Eventually, I turned that into a source of income and a space to train other women as well. Today, we are a team of 12—10 women and 2 men—working together to create women's Afghan clothing, children's outfits, puroni (layered traditional dresses), and full custom sets based on city orders. We take pride in every piece we make and try to keep the quality high while staying true to our roots. Thanks to Aseel, we now have a chance to connect with customers far beyond Kandahar. Through the Aseel platform, our work is reaching people all over the world. It means a lot—not just for sales, but for the recognition of our culture, our skills, and the hard work of Afghan women.
