Shukola Tailoring Workshop

-

My name is Qamargula, daughter of Amir Mohammad, and I run Shukola Tailoring Workshop here in Arghandab, Zabul. I started this workshop more than five years ago because I’ve always loved working with traditional Afghani fabrics, especially Hindara, leather, and Maryo. I completed my 10th grade and learned tailoring by closely observing clothes in the market and practicing on my own. I used to have a small tailoring space, but it closed about nine months ago. Still, I didn’t give up. I reopened my work near Namray Gul Mosque, and now with the help of a few women from the area, we are sewing clothes again—each piece carefully made by hand. We named the shop Shukola because I wanted something that reflects both beauty and strength. We mostly make Afghani dresses, and we try to add something unique to every design. I sell our clothes directly in the local bazaars and small alleys, wherever I can find customers. It’s not always easy, but it’s honest work and it helps me support my family. One of my biggest hopes is to contribute to the growth of our community and help build a better economic future—especially for women who want to work but don’t have many opportunities. Now, with the help of Aseel, I can bring our handmade clothes to more people—even outside of Zabul. Aseel is helping us reach buyers who appreciate traditional craftsmanship, and that means so much to us. Thank you for supporting our work. Every dress you buy helps keep our small workshop running and gives us the strength to continue.
