Solh Tailoring Workshop

-

My name is Bibi Hakeema Mayar, and I am the founder of Solh Tailoring Workshop, located in Qalat, the center of Zabul province. I studied up to 8th grade and started learning tailoring by helping my mother with her sewing work from a young age. I officially began this journey six years ago—not only to support myself, but because I wanted to build something meaningful for my future. I now run the business from my home, where I work together with six other women. We specialize in making traditional Afghani dresses, beautifully stitched and embroidered by hand. Our name, Solh, means “peace,” and that’s what I try to bring into every piece we create—a reflection of our culture, care, and the hope for a better life. The workshop was born out of both necessity and ambition—a desire to grow, earn with dignity, and provide job opportunities to other women in my community. We don’t have a big shop or fancy machines, but we do have talent, commitment, and a strong work ethic. Monthly, our earnings vary—sometimes it's 10,000 AFN, sometimes more. Each order makes a difference. Thanks to Aseel, we now have a chance to introduce our handcrafted clothes to people beyond our village and even beyond Afghanistan. Aseel gives women like me a platform to stand on our own feet, to reach new customers, and to share our work with the world. When you support Solh Tailoring Workshop, you support a story of resilience, community, and Afghan women striving for a better tomorrow.
