Afghanistan
My name is Haji Dawood. I was born and raised in Afghanistan, and I’ve been working in the clothing industry since 1999, when I was 24 years old. I studied up to 14th grade, but my real passion has always been tailoring and embroidery. I went to Pakistan to learn hand stitching and embroidery properly. I spent years there learning from experienced masters, and that’s where I really built my skills. In 2003, I came back to Afghanistan and decided to start my own clothing business. That’s how the Haji Dawood Clothing Brand was born. Alhamdulillah, today I have a team of 42 hardworking and talented people. Together, we hand-make a variety of clothing — from waistcoats, pakols, coats, and overcoats to women’s dresses, veils, men’s traditional outfits, and pato. All of our pieces are handmade using traditional Afghan designs and embroidery styles, combined with a bit of modern touch. We use raw materials from Afghanistan and Pakistan so the clothing stays authentic and true to our culture. We’ve designed over 150 unique pieces so far, and my dream is to grow even more — to open shops in different provinces and, Inshallah, one day take Afghan clothing to the international market. Joining Aseel has been a big step for us. It gave me the chance to share our handmade products with people outside of Afghanistan. Through Aseel, more people are seeing the beauty of our culture and craft, and it gives hope to me and my team that our work is valued. Thank you for supporting us — it means everything. — Haji Dawood
