Afghan Women's Educational Center (AWEC), a national, non-profit organization run by women, was founded in 1991. By enhancing the capabilities of vulnerable communities, the organization is dedicated to the inclusion, protection, and empowerment of Afghan women and children. AWEC provides opportunities for women and children to help them improve their living standards while also finding their utmost potential skills and capabilities. AWEC completed its first project: the establishment of an educational center for Afghan refugees residing in Islamabad, Pakistan, in 1991. The academic center could only operate as a primary school with the community's contribution. However, later on, it was requested to change the school from primary to high school due to the quality and excellence of education provided. Moreover, through different pieces of training, AWEC instructs Afghan women artisans to learn and practice artistic skills while also providing raw materials and marketing to these brands. AWEC supports about 100 women-owned businesses with 6–10 female artisans. Most artisans work from home, producing various handmade products, including women's and children's dresses, scarves and napkins, and traditional table clothes. The Aseel team met AWEC vendors at a recent exhibition held in Mazar-e-Sharif with AWEC's support and onboarded about 54 of these vendors. By partnering with Aseel, AWEC hopes to provide these businesses with access to a digital marketplace where they can set up shop and showcase their distinctive, handcrafted goods.
