Bamyan Weavers

Afghanistan

Welcome to Women Weavers of Bamyan 🌿 We’re a collective of Afghan women artisans led by Zahra Kazemi, a passionate and resilient woman who started this journey against all odds. After facing years of hardship—including war, relocation, and starting over—Zahra turned a small metal shelter in Bamyan into a space of hope and creativity. In 2013, she officially launched the business and, with the support of Mary Mag Mcken, landed a life-changing Canadian contract to make Kaleen—beautiful small rugs. That opportunity helped 50 women earn their own income for the very first time. Since then, we’ve grown to nearly 500 women across Bamyan and four nearby districts. Our products are handwoven and embroidered with love using natural materials like silk and cotton. From rugs and scarves to jackets, laptop bags, and sandals—everything we make carries a piece of our story and heritage. Working in remote villages without electricity and relying on pack animals for delivery hasn’t been easy—but we’re proud to keep going. Each item you buy helps women gain skills, earn a living, and support their families in meaningful ways. Thank you for being part of our journey 💛 With love, The Women Weavers of Bamyan
