Selling from AfghanishtanMohammad Wali founded Qarqin Carpets in 1972 in the Qarqin district of Jawuzjan, Afghanistan. Abdul graduated from high school in Kabul and studied business administration at Rana University. As a third-generation carpet maker, Wali carries on this tradition from his father and grandfather. Initially, Wali sold carpets to local distributors, but later, he and his grandson, Abdul Majeed Qarqin, opened a manufacturing facility to sell handmade products directly to customers. He uses modern technology to increase handmade carpet production to be sold locally and internationally. Qarqin Carpets currently employs 610 Afghan artisans who work from home or the factory designing and weaving carpets. Once the handmade carpets are meticulously assembled, they are delivered to Qarqin Carpet shops in Mazar and Kabul. The Qaleen (carpet) collection of Qarqin is recognized for the exquisite color schemes, weaving, and knitting patterns narrate Afghan artistry. These handmade carpets, rugs, prayer mats, and runner rugs come in several designs such as Maranosi, Patnosi, Ahal-Gul, Mazari, Aqcha, Bukhara, Beljik, Mauri, Yosouf Bahayee, Zahir Shahi, and Hal-Mohammadi, Khurjin. Wali and Abdul recently partnered with Aseel to sell carpets online and reach a broader target audience. The duo wishes to increase sales and continue enhancing the country's economy and company's growth while preserving the family's carpet-making tradition.
